Project Description: MAC Wildlife Area is a nature-based facility on Metropolitan Airports Commission land. This area contains a combination of wetland and upland habitat. The boardwalk around the pond is one of the signature amenities of the park, however, sections of the boardwalk have become submerged; making the route around the pond incomplete. A joint effort between the City of Crystal and Three Rivers Park District will construct 460 linear feet of new pedestrian-only boardwalk around MAC Wildlife Area. In addition to the boardwalk, a learning station will be constructed along the path to provide educational opportunities and allow groups to get a closer look at the wetland area.

Additional Information: City maintenance staff will be removing sections of the old boardwalk in January in preparation for new boardwalk installation. In addition to the boardwalk improvement project, Three Rivers Park District education staff will work with the City of Crystal, nearby neighborhoods and local schools to seek input into the scope of outdoor education, environmental stewardship, and recreation programs that could occur in the Park for the benefit of the community.
